How do contemporary visual artists articulate reality, its representation and the surface of their canvas? Each of the three artists offer a distinct response through their unique practice, challenging conventional notions of form, space and meaning.
Araminta Blue’s immersive oil paintings take figuration to the extreme, such that they border on abstraction. She utilises the surface of the canvas to visualise an imagined space and how it can be used as an escape and protection from reality.
Callum Harvey uses soft colour palettes to depict architectural, spatial and natural elements, examining the ten-sion between the natural and artificial that arises from the collusion of a flat surface and representations of three-dimensional spaces.
Max Boyla’s enigmatic compositions blur the lines between reality and imagination, existing in a place of limbowhere the real world mingles with the eternal and the fictional. His works on satin have an ambiguous quality whichdrifts between pure abstraction and natural landscape, evoking a fluid interplay of sea, sky and formlessness.
